Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about My Sub Hub — the community platform for dance professionals.

Platform Philosophy

Why My Sub Hub exists and what it's designed to be

Why isn't My Sub Hub a student booking platform?

My Sub Hub was built to support the professional side of dance — studios and instructors coordinating real work. We intentionally do not offer student booking or direct consumer hiring.

Here's why:

  • Studios need context, not volume
  • Instructors need professional boundaries
  • Public booking platforms often create noise, not better outcomes

Instead of acting as a marketplace, My Sub Hub focuses on helping professionals share relevant information, supporting coverage and coordination between studios and instructors, and keeping communication intentional and work-focused.

Students and the public may view informational profiles, but participation is limited to professionals. This keeps the platform useful, respectful, and aligned with how studios actually operate.

My Sub Hub isn't about transactions. It's about context.

Will there ever be public-facing features?

We do plan to expand public visibility thoughtfully over time — but not with the intent of becoming a gig marketplace or review platform.

Any public-facing features will be designed to provide context and visibility, not access. The goal is always to support professional coordination, not to create consumer transactions.

For classes, programs, or enrollment, please contact studios directly.

What makes My Sub Hub different from other platforms?

Most platforms optimize for volume — more users, more bookings, more transactions. My Sub Hub optimizes for relevance.

  • We don't set rates or take cuts from work
  • We don't algorithmically favor anyone
  • We don't expose instructors to unsolicited contact
  • We don't sell user data or use third-party ad networks

We're infrastructure for dance professionals — not a marketplace for consumers.

How My Sub Hub Works

Understanding our approach to connecting dance professionals

Is My Sub Hub a gig platform?

No. We don't assign work, set rates, or control how you accept opportunities. We provide infrastructure for discovery and coordination — relationships form independently. Learn more about our approach

Who controls pricing and rates?

You do. We never set rates, impose pricing bands, or algorithmically favor lower-cost instructors. See our transparency principles

Coverage Requests

How coverage requests work for studios and instructors

What are coverage requests?

Coverage requests are how studios and instructors find substitutes for classes. When you can't teach a scheduled class, you can post a request to find a qualified sub.

Studios can post requests for their classes, and instructors can also post requests for their own scheduled classes at studios where they teach.

What's the difference between public and private requests?

Public Requests

Visible to all instructors in your area who match the requirements. Good for reaching a wide pool of available subs.

Private Requests

Sent directly to specific instructors you choose. Only those instructors can see and respond to the request. Ideal when you have preferred subs in mind.

How do applications work?

When an instructor applies to cover a class, the requester reviews their profile, experience, and any message they include with their application.

  • Instructors can apply with an optional personal message
  • Requesters can accept, decline, or message applicants
  • Once accepted, both parties receive confirmation
  • Declined applicants are notified but details remain private

Can instructors post their own coverage requests?

Yes. If you're an instructor with regularly scheduled classes at a studio, you can post coverage requests for your own classes when you need a sub.

This is helpful when you need time off and want to find your own replacement rather than leaving it to the studio.

Notifications

How to stay informed about opportunities and activity

What notifications can I receive?

My Sub Hub offers several notification types to keep you informed:

  • Coverage Requests — New requests matching your availability and styles
  • Applications — Updates when someone applies to your request or responds to yours
  • Messages — Direct messages from studios or instructors
  • Community Digest — Optional summary of coverage activity and community news

How do SMS text notifications work?

For time-sensitive opportunities like emergency coverage or last-minute requests, you can opt-in to receive SMS text alerts in addition to email.

SMS notifications are optional and require explicit consent. You can enable them in your Settings under the Notifications tab.

Standard message and data rates may apply.

How do I control what notifications I receive?

Go to Settings - Notifications to customize your preferences:

  • Toggle individual notification types on or off
  • Choose between email, SMS, or both
  • Set frequency for digest notifications
  • Use "Select All" to quickly enable or disable all email notifications

Your notification preferences sync across all your devices.

Will I get spammed with notifications?

  • Always opt-in — you choose what you receive
  • Relevant to your profile — filtered by your styles and location
  • Clearly labeled — you always know why you received something
  • Easy to adjust — change preferences anytime in Settings

Do studios see vendor ads?

Studios do not see random ads. Vendors appear through:
  • The Vendors Area / Studio Resources Hub
  • Contextual recommendations during planning workflows

  • Team apparel and bulk uniforms
  • Studio operations (HVAC, flooring, AV, insurance, legal)

Direct-to-consumer lifestyle brands are not allowed by default.

Competitions, certifications, education, team apparel — may appear in feeds using structured content. Must declare audience and location.

How do vendors get discovered?

Vendors are discovered through:
  • The Vendors Area / Studio Resources Hub
  • Category and location search

Does My Sub Hub guarantee leads or results?

No. My Sub Hub provides visibility tools but does not guarantee inquiries, bookings, or revenue.

For Competitions & Event Organizers

Questions about listing competitions and events

How are competitions handled?

  • Discoverable by studios
  • Visible to instructors by opt-in
  • Organized by region and season
  • Never dumped into daily local feeds

Can competitions be promoted?

Yes. Competitions may use sponsored placements within competition and planning views.

Lifestyle & Athletic Brands

Guidelines for athletic and lifestyle brand participation

Are lifestyle or athletic brands allowed on My Sub Hub?

Yes — with strict constraints. Lifestyle and athletic brands may participate only when advertising professionally relevant gear, not general fashion or retail collections.

What kind of lifestyle brand promotions are allowed?

Allowed promotions must support teaching, training, performance, or studio operations. Examples:
  • Dance-specific footwear
  • Instructor training shoes
  • Apparel designed for long teaching days
  • Team warm-ups or competition uniforms
  • Recovery or support gear
  • Studio or program partnerships

What is NOT allowed?

  • Seasonal fashion collections
  • Lifestyle or streetwear campaigns
  • Influencer marketing
  • Retail-first promotions
  • "Shop the drop" messaging

If the primary action is "buy this for yourself," it is not permitted.

Where do approved lifestyle brands appear?

Approved lifestyle brands appear only in:
  • Structured, context-specific placements
  • Event, competition, or program sponsorships
  • Professional gear-related surfaces

They do not appear as generic lifestyle ads.

Geography & Visibility

How location affects what you see

Why is content local by default?

Because relevance matters. Local-first design keeps feeds useful as the platform grows.

Can users explore other cities or national opportunities?

Yes. Users may intentionally search or browse other locations and national listings.

Trust & Safety

How we handle verification, safety, and platform integrity

How are instructors verified?

My Sub Hub verifies that accounts are real and profiles are complete. "Verified" means platform-verified account — it confirms identity and activity on My Sub Hub, not external credentials or background checks. Trust is built through real studio interactions, feedback, and transparent history.

Do instructors undergo background checks?

My Sub Hub does not conduct background checks. Studios are encouraged to request background checks independently as part of their own hiring process. We provide transparency tools — complete profiles, verified activity, and studio feedback — to help studios make informed decisions. Safety policies remain the responsibility of each studio.

Are ads clearly labeled?

Yes. All paid placements are clearly labeled and separated from organic content.

Does My Sub Hub sell user data?

No. My Sub Hub does not sell user data or use third-party ad networks.

Does My Sub Hub endorse vendors or studios?

No. Listings and sponsorships do not constitute endorsement or guarantee of service quality.

What happens if someone abuses the platform?

We may remove content, suspend accounts, or revoke advertising privileges for violations of our terms or guidelines.
